The individual's clothes and the style of the vehicles on the right of the scene indicate that this is an image form the 1960s. Above is a blue sky with vague white clouds and the green tree in full leaf on the top left of the painting indicates that this is an early summer's day. The artist has painted this scene in an impressionistic style, with blurred and loosely painted edges and vague features.

"My Dad worked for a division of British Rail, so any trip to Glasgow was usually by train, using his concession ticket.

To visit a relative who lived on the south side of the city, we would change trains at Central.

Then we would head out to the leafy suburb of Cathcart, with its imposing tenements, sandstone villas and busy streets with shiny new cars.

Only an hour away from the little mining village I grew up in, but a world way for a wee country boy!”
