"Out doing the shopping with my Mam, would start off as a bit of an adventure.

But boredom would soon kick in, as she visited shop after shop for groceries (a daily ritual back then). Especially when she seemed to find time to stop and blether with neighbours in every shop doorway.

So that's when I would asked to be carried on the final stretch home!"
