"Going shopping is called Going for the Messages in the west of Scotland where I grew up.

It means going for the grocery shopping, but whenever I use this phrase anywhere else people are bemused by it.

They think it sounds like psychic communication or espionage -  how do you get your messages?"

Home From The Shops Little Gem is from the 'Little Gems' collection - a mixture of original landscapes and 'gadgie' characters that are painted on a smaller scale than Alexander Millar's usual canvas sizes.
