Flying Downhill Little Gem is an original oil painting by Alexander Millar. It shows the artist's classic 'Gadgie"character sitting on a bike cycling away from the viewer. The cyclist's clothes are typical of working men from the middle of the 20th century – a baggy suit and a flat cap. This individual has his legs sticking out, indicating that he if free-wheeling along, rather than peddling his bike.

“Back in the day, there were more bikes than cars in the village where I grew up.

It wasn’t a lifestyle choice relating to health or the environment - it was the only transport most could afford.

Although a necessity, you could still have a wee bit of fun , freewheeling down the hill!

Flying Downhill original oil painting - one of my 'Little Gems' - is on a smaller scale than my usual artworks - and I'm really pleased how the larger frame adds to the impact of the painting."
