Distant Shores, St Mary's Lighthouse is an original oil painting by Alexander Millar. This is a scene with the seashore in the foreground with abstract waves washing in towards the viewer. The white lighthouse sits far out to the right - on a rocky island - beyond some choppy sea. Above ,there are large clouds that are grey with hints of purple, yellow and white - the clouds catch the watery sunlight. Between the clouds there are patches of blue sky.

"I love walking along the seafront at Whitely Bay and looking out towards St Mary's Lighthouse. 

For me, it’s a great inspiration as the sea, the sky and the clouds look different almost every day of the year. And the lighthouse is an immovable fixture while everything in nature around it is constantly changing.

This piece is painted on a smaller scale than my usual artworks - and I'm really pleased how the larger frame adds to the impact of the painting.”

Distant Shores, St Mary's Lighthouse is in a dramatic grey/blue frame with burnished gold mouldings on its outer and inner edge. It also has a bronze slip.
