Peaky Blinders - The Final Showdown
Posted by Alexander Millar on 18th Feb 2022
This month BBC One shows the final series of Peaky Blinders.
Whether you love or hate the Shelby family, I've been captivated by their dramatic story from the inter-war years.
I always remembered my Grandad (Papa) as a work weary man in an old suit, so imagine my delight when I found an old suitcase of family photos from the 1920's and 30's - pictures of him as a young, sharply dressed man about town.
I've always loved painting and drawing how people wear heavy cloth like wool coats and tweed suits, so I used these photographs and images of pre-war movie stars as the inspiration for my 'Youth and Young Manhood' paintings.
At the same time I was working on these paintings, 'Peaky Blinders' was first broadcast on TV - the same era, the same clothes and a great storyline - even more inspiration for my collection!
To mark the final chapter of the Shelby family saga, we're offering a 10% saving on all "Peaky Blinders' inspired oil paintings, drawings and signed, limited edition prints - both online and in our Glasgow and Newcastle galleries - until 31 March 2022.
I hope you enjoy viewing my Youth and Young Manhood characters as I much as I have enjoyed painting and drawing them.
