"When I was a wee boy growing up on the west coast of Scotland, I would be thrilled and excited whenever a parade or a Scottish band would ever pass on the street. Even today I feel the hairs on the back of my neck rise when I hear the bagpipes."

The last parade I attended, and actually took part in, was the Tartan Week parade in New York a couple of years ago which was a dream come true. However, when you look at a firefighters’ parades that grace the streets of American cities, it rivals anything we have in the UK for sheer pageantry."
