Being a pasty, white faced, to the point of being transparent, Scot where over 90% of the population look just like me, I have very little experience of the issues and challenges that arise through discrimination based on ethnicity.

So my admiration for firefighters is doubled when I see men and women of all ethnicities within the US make such a commitment to serving and protecting their communities. In this image of a black American firefighter I wanted to capture the determination in his character that has made him the man he is today.
