"Back in the day, betting on horses seemed such a serious thing. The bookies, like the pubs, were hidden behind imposing doors and high, frosted glass windows, and it made us kids desperate to find out whst when on there.
And studying the day's form required lots of concentration (and Woodbines). I wonder what my gadgies of old would make of the bookies nowadays."
