Fair Friday is an original framed, pencil drawing by Alexander Millar.
"When I was growing up in the west of Scotland, every town had different holidays (or fairs as they were known). Glasgow Fair would be in a different week from Kilmarnock Fair or Paisley Fair. In the north of England they were know as Wakes Weeks.
The thing they all had in common was that Friday feeling - when the workers would pour out of the factory gates with two week's holiday pay, ready for their annual summer escape.
As the big factories that closed down annually for a couple of weeks disappeared, so did this 150 year old tradition - but Fair Friday, and the excitement it brought, is still so vivid to me and many of my generation!"
Fair Friday is mounted, glazed and framed in a dark brown/black wood grain effect moulding.
